- Tie any new shoots of climbing plants such as clematis, wisteria and honeysuckle and replace any old supports.
- Sow annuals into gaps in borders for colour from August all the way into the autumn.
- Plant up hanging baskets but continue to keep in a greenhouse or undercover until they establish. Hang outside towards the end of the month.
- Apply liquid feeds to daffodils, tulips and other spring bulbs to encourage a good display next year.
- Plant out summer bedding and tender annuals after the last frost of the season.
- Harden off any tender plants raised indoors during the day. bring them in during the night thought to protect from late frosty mornings.
- Add some interest to shady borders by planting some ferns or hostas
- Clean up ponds by removing pond weed and allow for planting of any new pond plants that may be needed.
- Start to plant veg into beds towards the end of the month - make sure you regularly water any vegetable plants in greenhouses.
